Coming this spring 2025, Black Hawk Lake will be sporting a new fishing dock on the south shore of Town Bay. It will also be handicap accessible. The Black Hawk Lake Protective Association partnered with the DNR to purchase this impressive new floating dock to replace the previous dock that was in bad shape. The previous fishing dock was widely used and greatly missed when the DNR found it necessary to occasionally close it for repairs. It finally reached a point where structurally it could no longer be fixed.
The new floating dock will be firmly anchored with poles to make it more durable and prevent damage from wind and waves. The plan will be to assemble the new dock on the ice (provided we have ice in winter 2024-25), secure the poles to the bottom of the lake through holes drilled in the ice, and then let the dock float as the ice melts beneath it. This procedure allows for the best possible installation and alignment.
