New lake view at Lake View, no pun intended.
Our appreciation to the Iowa DNR for opening up the view of Black Hawk Lake from the public access area on the south side of the lake, known as Gunshot Hill.
Trees and brush that totally blocked viewing the lake were recently removed. Included in this project is the preservation of the shoreline bank from wave erosion by armoring the shore with natural fieldstone.
At over 10 acres, Gunshot Hill is a beautiful tree shaded park adjoining the lake that has had very little public use because thick shoreline brush blocked views and access to the lake. Now fishing and picnic spots with beautiful lake views will, for the first time, be available to the public. The DNR has also installed a new sign at the park entrance, explaining the history of Gunshot Hill.
This project is part of the DNR’s 30 year Black Hawk Lake Restoration Plan. For many of the lake restoration/improvement projects, the DNR has partnered with the Black Hawk Lake Protective Association, the Black Hawk Lake Watershed Project, the City of Lake View and Sac County.
And more great news for Black Hawk Lake, the long awaited lake dredging project was recently contracted by the DNR and will begin this summer!
